    Many thanks for your replies.

Twiggle - I think it's fantastic you make your own bread. I guess it's just a (very good!) habit that you're now in. From what you say it sounds as if I can't even use an 'I've got no time' excuse for not doing my own as you make it sound so simple and quick!

I think I've fallen in love with the idea of coming downstairs to a wonderful fresh loaf. I've recently become self-emlpyed (working from home) so I feel inclined to become a bit more domesticated whilst at it!

Thanks also to the others for your replies. I think as I've only tried bread from one machine that it's hard to compare. As stated, the bread which I tried was nice but I'd be lying if I said that I could get by on a daily basis on teh quality/style that it produced.

    Cheers again,

    S.
  • I only use my panny to make the dough - lazy I know but I have it so I may as well use it! I go through various recipes but the one that everyone loves and so I make it most often as it gets used so quickly is:

    just over 1 tsp yeast
    450g white flour
    just over 1 teaspoon salt
    315ml water

Put BM on to dough setting (45 minutes).

Lightly oil hands and remove dough from BM and put in tin (I use a round one) and leave to rise for up to one hour.

Pre-heat oven to 190 and bake for around 32 minutes. This is how long it takes in my oven - I would check it at around the 25 minute mark to start with until you get used to how your oven timings are for bread.

Makes a delicious white loaf which tastes nothing like shop bought stuff. Costs pennies to make and would cost around £1.20 to £1.50 if bought.

Try this basic recipe and see how you get on and see how it tastes, then try half white and half wholemeal, and then move on from there to whatever you enjoy most.
