Hi
i am new to MSE but wanted to find out if anyone else had had the same problem with the Inland REv. I have had a company car most of my working life and changed cars over 18mths ago. The inland revenue have had all the relevant paper work (P11D) which states the new car and what date i had this from however they have only just noticed and are now claiming back the tax for the last 18mths. This is obviously a mistake by the inland rev (also a colleague of mine has had the same problem). Can i refuse to pay this as it was their error? any help woudl be appreciated.

Afraid not, if they have made an error you are obliged to correct them.0

Now P11d's arent due into to the revenue untill july 19th following the tax year end in april.
Therefor unless you inform them of the change then they would not know about it untill the earliest July. But usually by the time they look at them it is oct / nov.
So if you changed your car on April 10th 2008 and didnt notify the revenue they would probably not know about it untill oct/nov 2009.
hope this helps0 -
If you didn't send in a P45(car) then they wouldn't have known until the details were cross-referenced with the P11dHanny:easter_ba0
