Worried Parent

If your daughter wants to deal with her situation she will need to contact her creditors in the UK. If she does nothing and tries to avoid paying by staying in Ireland (not suggesting she is btw!) her creditors will find her. A relation of mine tried to do this in reverse years ago, before the EU even, by moving to UK to leave Irish electricity board debts behind and they found him, after three years and made him pay. That was before the internet. Debt companies are unstoppable I've found.
I think your daughter is lucky to have a supportive mum like you.
Even luckier that I am actually her Dad then?0 -
Yes, lucky that she has a caring parent.

I'm sorry ceeforcat....don't know why I assumed you were her Mum. Must be because I was thinking about mine. A supportive parent then.0

Not wishing to be too blunt, but that sounds like a lot of stress for £5k and not worth going bankrupt for. My bankruptcy got rid of £24k but is still a headache over 4 years after discharge. Definitely negotiate with the creditors really soon.

The debt shouldn't increase once it's with DCA's, I've never had one that's added interest (apart from Mercers, who aren't really a DCA).Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

I agree with Rayz - try and negotiate with creditors first. Most will probably accept 20%-30% of debt as full and final settlement.
