Coldest night so far this winter

Ever wondered about global warming people using "it's the hottest May since 1960" as a reason to support global warming. Or phrases to that effect.
To illustrate the media's over use of the phrase "so far", the weatherman has just said "tonight will be the coldest night of the winter so far"
Should I take this as proof the earth is getting colder, or should I just think "Well it's only been winter for 2 weeks, give it a chance"?

My local weather man was urging me to ensure that my elderly neighbours had their heating on...last night was not a night to be worrying about costs apparently.
I guess we should be jolly well frightened of both extremes!
How on earth do scandanavians survive?
I do agree that humans are probably speeding up an inevitable event and we should all make an effort to contribute as little as possible but weather mn propaganda???Comp wins 2014: £30 Gu Pud Vouchers0 -

Well when we get a headline about the "coldest May since 1960" you might have a point to make. A single night judged by only this winter doesn't really compare.0 -

necessity and years of experience i guess. apparently our houses are about as efficient as norwegian houses were in the 1930's to 1940's.0 -
Hmm didn't know that...it's so exaggerated though, Scandanavians or Canadians deal with much more cold than us...we're not going to explode because it's snowing!
As fr our houses there's a certain amount of personal responsibility for your own home but new builds? the government needs to get in there...leave the windfarms on th back burner for a while!Comp wins 2014: £30 Gu Pud Vouchers0 -
Scandanavian houses use triple-glazing at least as standard.0

Actually we have recently been seeing the hottest years EVER rather than "since 1960". It's long term trends that are important rather than a single month or year.
2008 whilst colder than 2007 (world temperatures) was still one of the warmest 10 years on record.0
