Hiya

 My name is Jo, I am in debt.. and am v concerned about it..

last year was a nursing student, and had a credit card (£3000 limit); student overdraft at £250.. but due to having a low bursary and manic depression, spent it all and now in about £5000 debt and scared.

Moved back to parents, they dont know anything.. bank keeps phoning me for repayments.. but the thing is the bank have old address..
So is there a way the bank can send post to another address like a PO Box?

I am so scared, everytime phone rings etc...

Still young, got phone bill to pay and only on sickness benefits...

Some kind advice would be helpful

Jo

    Don't hid from it!

Perhaps telling your parents would not be so bad, may be nicely surprised.
  • Hi Jo,

Well done for posting up :) you're in the right place.

I'm new to this myself but others will be along soon to advise - I think there are things you can do if you're on benefits.

Is there any way you can tell your parents? The stress of hiding it and dealing with it by yourself can't be nice, especially if you're not 100%?

The main this is don't panic, there is always help available and a way out.

If you can post up a statement of affairs people will be able to advise better...I will just get the link for you know.

You will get through this & this is the best place for you to come :)
  • Hi Catareta,

How are you doing today? Have you had any joy doing your SOA?
  • Tell your parents!

I was similar, ran up debts as a student, was made redundant and lived out of an overdraft, hid everything and stuck my head in the sand.

It was difficult to come clean to my parents but it was a HUGE relief and they have saved me a fortune with their financial help and advice.

By facing up to it, my debt doesnt seem so bad...i can manage the phone calls from the bank now!
