Paul I too used to love ITV play and brainteaser etc. Do you remember quiz tv brill
.
During 2006 when I was comping ALOT, through the above cash comps and others I had wins totalling around 21k tax free nice.
But it does take alot of time, it is volume that helps you win, my postie used to come to the door and ask "what did you win this time".
2006 was my best year, but in the early noughties was making around 5-10k a year. With the new baby and the other 2 didn't do much in 2007.
With 3 kids not had that much time in 2008, but still managed over 3k.
The big problem is it can get a bit repetitive and is not in any way guaranteed, but then again I suppose neither is self employed work especially at the moment.
I reckon it could replace a second income so if one partner worked in a stable job the second could make doing comps, but doing alot every day. There is also an element of luck.

Hi
Only spotted your reply today (been to busy comping!)
I got into TV quizzes too late and missed some of the early stuff.
Brainteaser's free entry was very quick which made it easier to win.
ITV Play free entry not too bad if you knew the quick way!
Quiz Call is another kettle of fish. 2008 was profitable for me, but the games are being made harder and harder. IE there are too many potential answers to their quizzes which takes the skill entry out.
This year have had ONLY one win of £150 on Quiz Call (Friday night)
My winnings for 2009 are pretty dismal that I haven't bothered updating my signature. Have only won goodies worth less tha £1k in three months
Although I have had some significant wins over the years, 2006/7/8 were easily my best due to the TV wins. I tend to concentrate on thins I would use sore rarely enter CD?DVD comps, ticket comps, short breaks that are too far away. Rarely enter alcohol comps yet have wone wine, whiskey and champagne in the past which I give away.
Want to win a tropical holiday or a laptop at the moment but all seems to be a matter of luck!
All my entries are net, but did enter a Caribbean postal comp the other day but only because it was Freepost
Good luck with your comps

Hi everyone, Well I'm about to lose my job due to ill-health (stress related due to horrible nasty high pressured job). Been looking for a way to change my life and move forward from this mess.
Anyway - last week I won a rather strange prize - it's a fast track hairdressing course worth nearly £6000. Am absolutely delighted as its secretly what I've always wanted to do.
I therefore am hoping to live off my competition win and even have my own business and then one day even retire on it!
Good look to all!

Hiya Paul
I miss brainteaser as well. Won a £500 and £1000 off them. There is that new quiz on channel 5 now "wordplay", but like quiz call you have to pay 6-7p each time on the "free" entry.
Still do the ITV entries as won on one of them last year.
good luck

By chance, caught Wordplay a few days ago. Need to investigate their entry system, but first glance looks unfriendly.
Channel 5's concept of "Free " entry really annoys me.
They rung me up today whilst I was out. They left me a number to ring them back on.
It's an 0845etc number. I always think that is cheeky as well!
Recieved a Sony camera today from a comp. It's only 7mp but prize description was 10mp or similar.
We (winners) have all complained, and to be fair to the promoter, she has emailed us and asked us not to use cameras yet, as she also believed our camera didn't meet spec specified.
It's a funny old life comping!
Good luck

victoriaplum1 wrote: »I subscribe to a comp magazine called 'Competitors Companion' its about £50 a year but I find it keeps me motivated when it drops through the door every month and it tells you about loads of comps you wouldnt otherwise know about. Theres always a comper of the month in it who has won dozens of good prizes but it does take time and effort ....I think its a nice hobby though and you gotta be in it to win it. Obviously postcard and internet type comps are potluck (though I have won one or 2), but ones where you gotta buy something to get a qualifier and/or write a slogan are gonna take more effort and so attract less entries in general. I have won a few good prizes a weekend break to Blackpool travel and food etc all paid for (slogan comp), the whole range of FCUK products (postcard comp) and £50 vouchers for a gardening shop from local newspapers (again postcard) also a runners up prize in an OK mag slogan comp where I got range of Herbal Essence shampoo/conditioner (1st prize was a hol to Hawaii though so was a bit gutted about that one!)....not exactly gonna retire on that but its a bit of fun and you never know when you may get lucky and win it big...someone has too! When I talk to people about my hobby they always say 'I never win' and I say 'do you ever enter'? Usually get the answer 'No'!!!!Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

hi all though i would add my opinion...
Depends on what is ment but life off comping. if i gave up work i would get income support, housing and council benefits so i could use comping to top my income. if i owned a house outright i think i could make enough to live off comping ( i live a cheap life!)
The answer is yes and no depends on your situation and how much luck you have i need to get back into comping i was doing well late year but just don't seem to have the time, also i miss the comps ending thread that i used to do daily! bring it back:j Proud mum to Jade age 10 years and Baby Ellie born Christmas Day:eek: with a broke heartProven to be a little fighter and battling on with her heart condition :j

I subscribed to Winners Friend for over a year and did most of the comps in that. I won nothing via those entries. I have cancelled now as, it seemed to me, the last couple of issues had a greater amount of 'pay to enter' comps: texting and buying goods to get the code etc
And there actually were not that many comps in there (a thin magazine).
Online comp entries for 2007 were over 3000. I won about 0.5% of those which included £1000 cash and £500 Debenhams vouchers, T-shirts, keyrings, perfume and facewash.
I try to do 30 a day at the moment although can do 100 a day (that is a strain on the eyes and fingers actually.)
No wins so far this year.Never sign anything!0
