midweek glasgow centre hotel

Options
My DD has hospital app nxt week and i am looking for a reasonable city centre hotel for the 14th jan for 1 nite, i want it 2 be central as i am wary of going to far with a 6 year old at night, and she will also be a bit tired after 4 hours at hospital, i have stayed at Marriott and Thistle hotels prev but they are coming up at around £100 and i am looking to pay a lot less as i want to take her to disney store next day and spoil her a bit so would rather use money for that, i have found a hotel by Mckever hotels the glasgow city hotel in Elmbank street(which sounds quite central) which we can get for £35 for the 2 of us but where is it, can any1 tell me where it is near so i hav a rough idea of the whereabouts and if there is a child friendly eating place nearby THANKS XX

Check the Tripadvisor website out for reviews of the hotel you're looking at, it's normally pretty good and reliable.

I've used the needahotel and laterooms websites for trying to get good deals in Glasgow and Edinburgh - just Google them and take it from there?
  • i use the premier travel inn above charring cross train station for about 50 a night, near the bottom end of sauchiehall street as well and round the back of the kings theatre so good access to taxi's if needed in middle of the night.

novotel on pitt street is good value as well.

elmbank street is just round the corner from sauchiehall street and is very near to charring cross train station. its about a 20 minute walk to queen street station, but only a couple of minutes by train, there are mainly pub eatery places down that end of town, but there is a wetherspoons, and also on bath street there are a number of nice reasonably priced restaurants that do good quality food.

hope your daughters stay goes ok

  • Which hospital is your daughter going to/where are you coming from? If it's the Royal Infirmary you're going to, Charing Cross isn't the most convenient place to be in for there, but you could get a taxi (shouldn't be too pricey) or train and walk a bit.

Elmbank street is pretty central, round the corner from Charing Cross train station, and close to taxis and the train (one stop down to Queen Street, there's a new Disney store in the Buchanan Galleries near there).

As far as eating with kids goes, there's some italian restauraunts on Sauchiehall Street, and a Wetherspoons nearby. Further up the street, there's King's Cafe which does chips type food. I don't tend to go out with kids so I'm not as up to date with it as other people may be.

Best wishes with your daughter's stay.
  • We are traveling by train arriving at central station, she is going to yorkhill so was going to get a taxi there as i only really know the main shopping streets in glasgow, The express by holiday inn in stockwell street is only £32 for the night so think i will book it later tonight, just want to check first it is quite central as it is a really good price, thanks for everyones replies xx

If it's not too late then I probably wouldn't advise the stockwell st Holiday Inn Express. Very noisy and rowdy bit of town, and it's not very close to anything.

(If it is too late, it will be fine!)

Yorkhill is in the West End so bit of a trek out of town. West End is great - my kids loved the Transport Museum and Kelvingrove Galleries. Have you looked at any hotels around there? You can also jump on the underground right to Buchanan St for the Disney Store. (Been out of Glasgow for a while so sorry I can't recommend any but this one gets great reviews on tripadvisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g186534-d209058-Reviews-Kelvingrove_Hotel-Glasgow_Scotland.html )

Because west end is quite studenty - lots of good places to eat on Byres Road and also on Sauchiehall Street.

so glad - what I didn't say is the one on Stockwell st has a bit of a reputation of harbouring ladies of ill repute....

The West Nile St one is nice - and good pizza place on the ground floor. I think they also offer special rate car parking at the car park across the road. It is very handy for the Buchanan Galleries (think that's where the Disney Store is?) and John Lewis. You are also right next to the theatres (Pavilion and Royal) and also the big Vue Cinema complex. It is still a bit of a trek from Yorkhill but if you're looking to stay in town it's fine. The Park Inn across the road is a lovely hotel, despite the awful name!

Hope your daughter is okay and you both have a good time
