Does anyone know the minimum number of years that one has to pay National Insurance to ensure that a full sstate pension (I know it is'nt much) is recieved at retirement?
Also does being in full time education mean that you get a years "credit". Does this apply to post-graduate education as well (i.e. doing a PhD paid for by a research grant so not taxed)?

It depends on age and sex
Man = 44Yrs
Woman = varies vetween 39 and 44yrs, depending on D.O.B - Women born after 6/4/1955 retire at 44
Education does not grant NI Credits, the only cover you would get for education would be through juvenile credits for the tax years of age 16-17 and 17-18.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
