Giving something back time frame

Good afternoon all.

I would like to pose this question to you. I made an order for a computer online, everything was fine, they took the money but then I realized I had made an error in the order, I phoned them up and told them the problem, again they were fine, they said they would cancel the order and the money would be refunded in 5 working day. The money was refunded in good time and everything went extremly well, a few days later the computer was delivered to the door and the wife signed for it and here it is now sitting in the hallway.
Now the question....Do I just sit here waiting for them to realize want they have done and come running to my door? do i have the inform them wants happened? is they a time frame to which after it has passed i can say HAHA sorry to late, I know it's not in the british way to do things like this but i'm fed up of correcting big companys errors.
John.

Do you want the legal or moral answer?
  • The legal one.
Before people get on their horses i'm phoning them anyway, just thought it was an interesting question, forgot about the high and mighty factor.

Legally its not yours and you have to give it back.

If the company had not refunded your money would you want it back?

It was these bits that made me think that you were looking at ways to avoid giving it back. Forgive if you are just and honest person looking for the answer to your 'interesting question'.
  • That's ok.
When this site first got going it was great because you could ask odd 'what if's' and people would give an informed and interesting answers without the question being picked apart and analyzed for something that is'nt there, I just think it's a sign of the times which is just a mightly big shame.

With respect you have made five posts in as five years. I don't think that you can really make fair comment on the ethos of MSE with so little input!

Call up the company and ask them to collect within a reasonable timeframe.
If they don't bother then ask on here again...

I don't know the true legal answer but from what I understand, you placed an order which you then canceled - The order may of progressed very quickly and already past for delivery (you would be shocked at how quickly this can happen).

Now - The company stuck to their agreement (refund) therefore you are then required to stick to your part of the agreement (not receiving goods).

If this was me personally - Keep hold of it (unused) until they come looking for it - maybe ;)
