Hi,
basically I went to the bank to get a business loan the other day which was declined. They said it was due to credit score - thinking it must be because I wasnt a home owner I didnt think much on it. The day after my wife received a letter turning her credit card application down, again for credit score.
We got a bit worried - so My Wife got her credit report from Equifax
Turns out we have a CCJ for £1600 that we knew nothing about!!!!!
A while ago she had a car accident and the guy claimed whiplash but the insurance company never bothered to pay him - it went to court and she was found liable in absence - no letters were ever sent to us about it and now we have this CCJ for a ton of money and no bank will touch us with a barge poll
Anyone got any ideas as to my options

You need to contact the relevant court and find out what address they had for you and why you didn;t receive the paperwork.
Maybe go to the CAB and ask their advice?:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Hi,
Question. Why didn't the Insurance company pay?
I had a very similar problem at the beginning of 2004. I had a crash in 2000 and was subsequently taken to court in 2003 (without my knowledge). My insurers didn't contact me and I was found liable (as I was contesting the "fault" in the accident) in my absence - CCJ applied, my insurers paid out immediately.
The other parties insurers then didn't write to the court to state that I (/my insurers) had paid and bingo - CCJ for £2500 on my file.
I got hold of the other insurers solicitors - and got them to send the letter to the court stating that I had paid with 30 days and it got completely removed from my file. I believe that if you pay after 30 days the CCJ stays on your file but is shown as satisfied (/set aside - cant remember now).
The only reason you have a CCJ is that a court has found you (/your insurers) liable the other persons insurers should have gone to your insurers with this judgment and your insurers should have coughed up. Once they have this judgement I don't think your insurers can say no we don't believe it - they have been found liable (well you have been found liable, but your insured by them to cover your liability).
This is where you find the difference between good and bad insurers. It took me 2 weeks to find out that my insurers had paid. Likewise they said that they had tried to get hold of me and sent me information, but I didn't get them.0
