I really need help!!!!!!!!

I really hope somone can help me? I have recently left my job as my manager made it unbearable for me to work. I was due to be paid on 24th December but nothing came. When i called the wages department they told me that i wasn't owed any money as i was paid for each month and because i resigned at the end of november i wasn't owed any money for December! I was always under the impression that we were paid monthly in arrears and so were all of my collegues. I called my area manager and he thought we were also paid in arrears, i called him at 11am and he said he will check it out and call me back. He called me at 3.30pm and said that i would need to look at my pay-slips to see what i was owed and then call head office which was now closed and not open again until new year!!! Thus being no help and leaving me with no money for xmas! I got my brother-in-law to go to my place of work and collect November & Decembers payslips as agreed by phone. My December pay-slip showed i was owed £1080!!!! I called last monday and the lady who deals with the wages still said that we were paid monthly in arrears but for the month! i.e: what i worked in november i would be paid for in november. She was talking to me like i was stupid?! I asked her where on my contract does it state that, she told me and i found the clause she was referring to but i still can't make head nor tail of it?! it states 'the company will pay the employeea baic salary of ..........per annum. This will be paid on the last working day of each month in arrears by equal instalment by direct transfer to the employees bank account'. Another lady at head office said they have recalled the BACS under instruction from a more senior manager. They said i am only entitled to my overtime for that month which works out about £14 as that is paid the month after you did it?! Does anyone understand this? I'm sure im entitled to my wages but they are making me doubt myself?! I feel like they are punishing me because i left on bad terms??? Does anyone understand what payment in arrears means?

I'm a bit unclear as to when your last day actually was. Did you do any work during December or did you leave at the end of November?
If you worked at all during December then you should have been paid for those hours on the 24th. They won't pay December's wages if you didn't work for them during that month.
Payment in arrears means just that - you work during November and then get paid at the end of that month for the work you have done. I get paid on the 18th, 2 weeks in arrears (for the 1st-18th of that month) and 2 weeks in advance (18th-31st).

I agree.
I am paid in arrears; I am paid at the end of the week, for the work I have done during that week.
The pay you received at the end of Novemer was payment, in arrears, for the work you did during Novermber.0
