Contact victims support and give them the crime reference number that the police should have logged. They may be able to compensate you.

on a different note, if there's any paint marks on your car which has transferred from the car that hit you, phone the police again and ask then to take a sample of it. It may be a long shot, but it could be worth it in the long run.

£300 excess seems quite high for a driver with 8 years no claims, but I suppose not much can be done about that now... I had my first ever accident after 11 years of driving last month (no,i didn't hit a parked car before you ask!) and have decided to go through insurance, the damage estimate was £1200. I have protected no claims but I'm hoping my premiums aren't too affected -I felt that after paying out probably £4000 in insurance over the past 5 or 6 years since I've owned my own car I was quite entitled to have some of it back! My excess was only £50 though...

re bodywork recommendations, i had an unfortunate incident with a gatepost in 2007 and had my wheel arch repaired and repainted by J & W Body repairs on Loopland Park in Belfast (Cregagh/Castlereagh) and their work was excellent. Recently a friend at work who crumped his Clio also got his repaired there and was also very happy, worth getting a quote from at the very least, but be prepared to be quizzed as (according to friend with clio) they are reluctant to give quotes as quite a lot of ppl get quotes then run off and get it done by a "mate with a garage" brandishing said quote as proof they should be able to do it cheaper

claim through the MIB - down the untraced route (the person who hit you is untraced) there'll be an excess to pay can't remember what it is now possibly £300, but at least your insurance wont be affected. you submit an application form and they'll take you in for an interview - short and sweet nothing to it, Allianz insurance deal with MIB over here so thats where you'd go for the interview.
