M&S Christmas Puddings

Yeah, I know it's not Christmas anymore - sorry. I don't normally venture in to M&S - it's not exactly prime bargain-hunting territory. But today their luxury Christmas puddings were well cheap - you know the really expensive, luxury ones that you don't usually look at? Nice range on offer - I got a 907g Connoisseur's Christmas Pudding (complete with nice black and gold box) for £2.49 The use-by is March, but I reckon it would store OK to next Christmas and taste all mature. But I probably won't have the will-power...

I always buy mine in the sales!

Tesco Finest ones are really lovely, and the ones I've just bought have a date of March 2010 on them. Not quite as cheap as the M&S ones, though. I think it was £5.50 for a 1.2kg one.

Still, if the M&S ones have to be eaten by March, I'd better go and buy some at that price!!
  • My Sainsburys had the luxury 907g one for 99p yesterday - of course I bought the same pudding reduced a few days ago for £2.49 - think it was originally around a fiver.

Christmas puds can be a bit hit-and-miss, so it's good to have a rec on the best tasters. I was keeping an eye on my local Co-op - I had one of their 6-month-matured ones at Christmas which was utterly gorgeous - lots of nuts with a nice fruity/brandy taste, but not overpowering. They're still in stock, but I'm holding out for the price reduction! I reckon one of those would definitely make a good keeper. The M&S Connoisseur one's blurb is: Christmas Pudding bursting with vine fruits , dried apricots and nuts, and steeped in Courvoisier VS cognac. Now try saying that like Dervla Kerwan! They also had an interesting one made with Irish stout and real Irish suet. There was another luxury one with cranberries and orange, and another huge (like 1.2Kg) classic one. All around the £2.50 mark.

That Connoisseur one is gorge! It's the one I get every year. It won't last 'till March!

We had the orange chocolate one at christmas and it was gorgeous, one of the best puddings I've ever had, and I like my puddings!

Well worth getting if you see them cheap!

I don't know how much Sainsburys are selling off their Mr Kipling mince pies for, but the woman in front of me in the queue yesterday had 37 boxes (each containing 6 mince pies)!
