BT Problems- Can't get ex directory.

Hi,

I would be realy grateful for any help and advice.

We moved house last year within the same town and BT made a real mess of connecting our new line- took them 5 weeks and then they didn't give us our original number but changed it to a different one.

Because of all the problems we had getting the line connected I didnt pursue changing the number back as couldn't bear the thought of weeks longer of phone calls and mess ups.

We have always been ex directory, its very important that we are due to DH job, so I was really stunned when a friend of my daughters called us and said she got the number from directories. Sure enough when I looked online we are listed so anyone who searches us by surname and area (they dnt need our address) gets our home number and more worryingly for us, our home address.

This was approx 6 mnths ago and I have called BT a total of 9 times, 3 times have been to their complaints dept and just before christmas I rang OFCOM and got a referal reference from them and spoke to the BT Ofcom referrals dept. Basically, everytime I explain how important it is that we are not listed online or otherwise in the directory and have gone into great detail to explain how serious the situation is. Everytime, they have apologised profusely and said within 48 hrs our number will be removed from the online bt enquiries. A few days later I check and we are still there.

I am beginning to get desperate, I just dont know what to do. Does anyone have any advice?

Many thanks.

Tamlem, I completely sympathise with you. I found out yesterday (when my stalker turned up on my doorstep!) that I am not ex directory as I requested, and in fact my name, telephone number, address and even a map to my house are displayed on the BT website!

Called BT this morning, to be told 'we can't tell from our records if you are ex directory' (I was looking at my details displayed on their website at the time!

I too have had many problems with BT, and I find the only way to get anything done is to email the CEO Ian Livingstone - ian.livingston@bt.com . He normally replies very quickly.

I have just emailed him, so I'll let you know what happens.

Ian Livingston replied to me email within half an hour, saying he would pass this to someone to deal with urgently. Someone called me 10 minutes after that to apologise and they are going to sort it out. Not sure how they can sort it out, seeing as how they can't erase my address from the stalker's memory! We'll see.

Give it a go - good luck!

Sorry to hear about your problems but I wanted to go Ex-Directory yesterday (kept getting alot of nuisance calls) and although I couldn't seem to do it on-line ,I rang BT and a very nice guy in India (I believe) said he would sort it out and low and behold all done when I checked today. So sometimes they can get it right.Brillant service all in 24 hours.
