what happens now

our mortgage was finally all paid off in march 2008.

i heard nothing from the bank of scotland so i posted them a letter asking them what happens now in may, having given them sufficient time to contact me about what happens to our deeds and for final cofirmation telling us it was all done and dusted and still ive heard nothing.

what exactly is the protocal,

will they eventually return the deeds, are they waiting on something else from us before theyy tie it all up.

ive been trying to contact them now for weeks but seem to sit in endless queues on the phone without getting anywhere and with a toddler and a newborn i dont have the luxury of hours of freetime to sit on a call.

id really appreciate any help or advice offered.

thanks

Might be worth spending a few quid on the Land Registry website getting the documents for your property and checking whether BoS still have a charge registered against the property. That will also tell you quickly whether your property is registered (compulsory registration on purchase came in a fair while back but there are still some older properties that aren't and you might want to consider getting this done via a solicitor for security if it hasn't already been done). If the property is shown on the LR site and has no charge on it then BoS have cleared the charge and that is pretty much all that needs to happen. Beyond that I'd just write to them and ask them to confirm in writing that the mortgage is satisfied etc.
