Q. When is a bank holiday not a bank holiday?

A. When its the 2nd January...

Despite 2nd January being a statutory bank holiday in Scotland, under The Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971, I have been hammered for £76 of RBS bank charges on 02/01/09 due to 2 direct debits being unpaid due to insufficient funds. This is despite RBS T&Cs stating that a banking day refers to any day from Monday to Friday (inclusive) which is not a bank holiday.

I'm gonna have fun fighting this one. I think I have a good chance...

So heed this as a warning all ye people domiciled in Scotland. The 2nd of January is only a bank holiday in Scotland by name.
