Business Rates Tax Summons, Please advise

Hey guys,
need some advice please. Somehow I managed to overlook my business rates for 3 months, thinking it was on DD. Everytime I checked my account, it didn't hit me that nothing was being debited.
Checked to see for any mail from council, but nothing. Decided to check m file and realised it was meant to be mailed in. Hence I went straight to the website and paid it.
Called them up the next morning, to find out a summons had been issued. Agreed to pay the extra £150, split up into £50 for this month with this months bill(which have already paid) and £100 for next month.
Question is, do I still have to reply the summons since I have agreed to pay?
Also, since no mail was delivered requesting the monies owed, and no summons was received, is it possible to appeal as I in no way tried to avoid payment.
Appreciate any help offered.
Thanks

The summons has been legally issued if the requested payments have not been made, the fact that an arrangement has now been made does not negate the validity of it.
The council will have issued a bill, reminder etc, the fact that they may not have been received will again not negate the summons . Th Council should be able to provide a proof of postage certificate,I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
