'Good' laptop retailer?

I know exactly what i'm looking for, but am being frustrated by inept website designs & inconsistent/inaccurate/incomplete product descriptions.

I have no idea how anyone ever buys laptops from big online retailers when most do not provide sufficient information to make an informed purchase. I can only assume most people simply buy based upon brand name & price bracket, without a second thought as to the exact components they are buying?!

Can anyone suggest a competitively priced online retailer who know (& publish in a useful fashion!) the exact specifications of the products they are selling?

Bargain hunting is further compounded by many retailers stocking their own adaptions to the hardware, making price comparison extremely difficult. Arg!

Phew, glad I blew that steam off!

:edit:

Oops, posted this in entirely the wrong forum, sorry had two windows open! =)
If someone could be as kind as to move this i'd be much obliged. Ta.

Get the model number(s) from the retailers you're considering buying from, then look up the specification on the manufacturer(s') website(s).

    What's so complicated about that?

That is exactly what I don't want to have to do!
Such a search would take ages! Also, the component specs. on the manufactures websites tend to be just as inaccurate or incomplete as the retailers!

I generally find even the retailers' websites accurate for CPU, hard disc capacity, RAM, and usually video controller/GPU.

Do you need more specific information than that (e.g. to check compatibility with Linux distributions)? If so, check http://www.linux-laptop.net/

if the manufacturers specs aint right... then how can you expect a retailer to know the right spec? where do you think they get the specs from? open every laptop model, fire it up and write it all down?

i cant see any reason why a manufacturer wouldnt have acurate specs. I cant see that it will take that long. Ive done it many times for customers.
