does anyone work for DWP? a question!

Hi, hopefully someone can help! I applied for a job with the DWP for a position at a jobcentre. I know Christmas and New year may have a part to play but I was wondering when I should have heard anything back by? The closing date, if I remember rightly, was Dec 19th. Will I hear anything either way? Or should I assume that if I dont hear anything then I havent got an interview?
I am so demoralised and fed up with my current job and this one seems perfect for me!!

Thank you in advance for any help!
Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!
:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!

The recruitment process for the Civil Service is renowned for being long-winded. I wouldn't give up hope of being contacted for interview just yet. Good luck!
  • Took a couple of weeks after the closing date before I got contacted to go to testing and interview. When you go to interview, you'll have to undergo a literacy and numeracy test first. Depending on your scoring in that, you'll either get an interview or sent home. If you're sent home, you'll not be hearing from them. The pass mark it would appear is fairly high due to the number of candidates. Only 10 out of 30 of us passed out of the group on the day I went.

  • Hiya. I started to work at jobcentre plus in june. I actually applied for the job in march. After my application they took about 2 weeks to get back to me for an interview, then once i had been told i had been sucessfull, i had to wait for a police check which took ages. I do know that some offices take people on in 'easement' which means they can start work before police check has cleared, but if they find out anything dodgy about you in the meantime they can then get rid of you straight away.
    I hope this helps
  • that you should hear back whether you get an interview or not. good luck i hope it goes well.

Thank you all, I wont give up hope just yet!! All I have had so far is a generic "we have received your application" ( I applied online) email a bit after I submitted it on the 19th Dec. It always seem like forever when its something you really want to do I guess!!

  • Hi

I work for jobcentreplus. You will get a reply from your application either way - any day now i would imagine. It doesn't usually take too long to hear anything from the initial application, although the whole process can be lengthy. If you get through the initial sift you may have to sit selection tests next. Good luck!
  • yeah, i work for dwp. to be honest, i'm not sure how long it takes to hear back, a few weeks, i'd imagine.

i wouldn't worry too much though, its a hellish place to work!

    good luck though!

I would put a 'rider' on that......I know of a guy who applied for an EO position last year in a large recruitment. He didn't hear anything back, so I checked with the vacancy manager at his local jobcentre. He said that recently, in large intakes, the district office didn't always get back to people.

    Just thought I'd mention that.
