Thats me done !! I am truly worn out.

Options
Sorry for starting a new thread but I am so impressed with this site and all you lovely people that I have emailed my two sisters and given them links as I know they are in a worse position than I am .

They have huge incomes but huge debts and still living way beyond their means.
I know I gave away far too much info on the other thread and they will know who I am.

I just said I found this site and asked them to promise to look around for at least an hour and I will ring them tomorrow.

So I want the other thread to drop off the page if possible, I think it would be very selfish of me to keep this place to myself when it can get them out of big trouble, they earn a lot and spend a lot and it just needs someone ( you amazing lot) to show them how to do it.

My 2 daughters have already been on the phone tonight and are blown away at the simplicity of martins advice which when you step back and think about it is just common sense but when you are stressed you can't be objective.

You know what they say about seeing the wood for the trees

I think this way of thinking should be thought to all school leavers to prepare them for life and how not to get in debt.

Can you imagine an A level in budgeting and managing your money!!! there would be a lot less people who are at the end of their rope so to speak.

There we are I think martins money should be compulsory for all,I think the government would do well to come on here for a few days and learn a thing or two. :T :T :T

    Hiya

Why don't you ask a board guide to lock it for you so that no-one can 'bump' it up the forum? ....or it can be deleted.

    Good luck.... :)
Just run, run and keep on running!

  • It's an amazing site, I rave about it to anyone who'll listen. A friend commented it's all about putting our money back in our pocket.

Yeah how true even if at the beginning it is only virtual money!!
  • I learnt about money on this site what my parents failed to teach me. Mum and dad never discussed money in front of us chldren or ever taught any of us the vaule of it even though i can see now how careful they were with their own spending. Out of the 3 of us only 1 has budgeted quite well over the years but mainly because his wife worked in accounts when he met her so she knew all about budgeting. My other brother has nearly had to file for bankruptcy years ago but i think dad bailed him out, having said that he's in a mess again, sometimes it is kinder to be cruel. I now do daily accounts for my bank accounts the money in my purse and also the loose change i throw in my penny jar. I actually enjoy finding a way to save money and cut back but most importantly of all i have got my son reading on these message boards and learning and also trying to find cheaper ways to phone his girlfriends mobile which is in another country and thanks to Martin he actually found a website only costing 1p a min as opposed to 75p with BT. I know he will never get into debt like i have done, if he does then it will be through very negative circumstances not frivolous spending.
  • Hi my daughter 23 is finalising her first mortgage contract today and I am going to make sure she has all the links relevent to that debt at hand before she gets into any trouble.

funny thing is my son 22 asked my last week " what is a credit card, what does it do"
I explained it is like a loan and what ever you spend on it you then pay interest on the outstanding balance.

He said it "sounds stupid to me why cant you just save your own money and buy what you want instead of using someone elses" He has always done this but living at home he has no expenses as yet only his car.

I just thought to myself "HOLD THAT THOUGHT"

I can totally relate to what youre saying. My Mom always seemed unhappy when money was tight and was only ever happy when she had money in her purse and she was shopping, although I must say my parents never had any debt only a mortgage. Money was never really spoken about, I didnt have to earn my pocket money it was just given to me week after week.

Now both my sister and I have terrible money problems, we were never taught the value of money or how much better it feels to save for something.

I remember when I got my first job and I didnt have a bank account (my parents didnt even teach us to save properly) I was 18 and was totally nieve (sp?) to everything. My Dad came with me to what was The Midlands Bank and helped me fill in the forms, the lady asked if I wanted a visa or a master card? Or I could have both but linked to the same account? I looked to my Dad for advice and he just said if you want one. I didnt know what they were let alone anything else. I agreed as I thought it would be fine as my Dad didnt see the problem with it.......iIt was a very slippery slope from then on.

Im not blaming it all on my upbringing but I do think it all comes into play somewhere.

Before I came on this site I was already quite good with money but now I have tightened my belt even more. I seem to have more money left over at the end of the month to go into my ISA than I had before. I wish I had known about this site when I was in debt.
