TV wastage

I just called into my local recycling point yesterday and couldn't believe my eyes at the number of TVs people have got rid of. It seems such a waste. Does anyone know if these are recycled by local councils or sent to 'third world countries to inhabit their rubbish heaps? I presume these are being dumped as the new lcd etc ones are so reasonable at the moment. I can't see how the so called credit crunch has taken effect! Okay, that's my rant for January!
2p or not 2p? That is the question!

Depends on the council I suppose but the UK now implements the WEEE EU directive.
As for waste, at least LCDs, plasma TVs etc are far more energy efficient for the screen size than CRTs ever were and contain far less hazardous chemicals."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
