Mortgage joint tenants question

Hope this is in the right place... I was reading another thread that mentioned Joint Tenants/Tenants in Common and was promted to look at my own Mortgage, which is drawn up as Joint Tenants.
My question is should we leave it like this or change to Tenants in Common?...
I have 3 grown up children but my husband has none.. I have made a will while my husband refuses to make one. My will really needs updating but what would happen if I died first and the whole house became my husbands property would it then go to his siblings and my children be left out in the cold ? Is there a way that in my will I could safeguard some of the house for my children . Would that way be to change the Mortgage to 'Tenants in Common' , but then what would happen to me if my husband died first , would his relatives be able to turf me out of the house? (assuming my husband had made a will in the meantime leaving them his share) if not would his share be mine to do with as I pleased ?
This is very muddled sorry..... and there are several question too
