Redundancy calculation?

IU've been working for my Company for 14.5 yyears full time & 2.5 years part time. Have been given a redundancy figure that's calculated on only my part time salary as it is now. The payout is enhanced above minimum but do the company have any obligation to take into account the 14.5 years I did full time?

Hi! I am sorry to hear of your situation. I am a HR officer and have dealt with a couple of redundancy situations. Unfortunately most Companies will only base their calculations on the individual's current salary. If it was a recent reduction in hours you could appeal against the amount and they may reconsider, however as it was 2.5 years ago, it is unlikelly that they will take your past salary into account. Sorry.

So what is being offered is above statutory amount. So there is nothing to argue about on that front.

However, you could check what your terms of employment say about redundancy pay in case it takes in the higher rate of pay. It seems to me that, as Popsicle says, it is extremely unlikely that anything as far back as 3 years would be included in the scheme.

I suspect that the "Part-time Workers (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations" would stop them from shafting you like this.
Generally part time workers use the full time salary but each part time year of service only counts as a fraction of a full years service, eg if you are doing 3 days a week then each year is worth 3/5 years.
