I'm looking to replace my broken Sony 7mp camera (2nd Sony one and they've both broken). Went yesterday as I'd sort of made my mind up on the Samsung P1200 for £99.99 from Currys but the assistant said the optical zoom wasn't so good. Ended up looking at loads and coming home with nothing. Don't want to pay a fortune but looking for something that's pretty good. Any advice would be appreciated.
If I had known then what I know now . . .

Fujifilm do great cameras. What about this one http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/Cameras%20and%20Lenses/Digital%20Compact%20Cameras/products/Fujifilm/Finepix%20J50%20Value%20Bundle-75553/Show.html
Or have a look at any of the Fuji compacts you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for taking the time to offer help. Would I be better spending a bit more and getting higher pixels? The quality of my Sony was great (before the little dial jammed) for daytime but at night in poor light it was pathetic. Certainly the Fuji is one I'd consider. If I had known then what I know now . . .

Higher pixels is not always best. The quality of the lens is more important. Fuji have a great Fujinon lens & they also manufacture their own lenses. The Fuji range are also great in low light if needed.
