Some cashback available via quidco too, possibly 0.5% as this is likely to be classed as electronics.

Never buy Monster on principle, they are litigious, over priced, run by mad men and make ludicrous claims about their products.

You've been had even at £7.99 sorry to say, you will notice no difference over a Poundland scart.

You could notice a difference, but I do agree with you about Monster cables. Although its a £23 saving, there's no way the cable was worth £30 in the first place.

People getting smarter to the price of these cables is a big reason why DSG are struggling, imo.
  • That isn't the cheapest gold scart they have on Play.com just bought a Synn 1.2 metre one for £3.99, which for a gold one I think is ok.

I have noticed that a lot of retailers seem to be discounting scart cables at the moment, I thought this may be down to scart being on the way out in favor of component or HDMI connections?

When I got my new TV someone said to me "You know you have to pay £70 - £80 for the cables to get the HD picture dont you?"

He had been sold some by a DSG salesman. £75 for gold plated fancy looking cables you cant see and makes no difference (its a digital signal)

    I just nodded.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Back in Jun when I was looking @ TV's in Comet an excited sales bloke tried to convince me of the same. As I couldn't be bothered explaining to him why gold HDMI connectors exist and for when they are suitable, I did what you did, and just nodded.

Ofcourse, I bought from Amazon in the end - but thanks go to Comet it's always nice seeing in the flesh what you are going to buy elsewhere

    p.s.

It's worth mentioning though that the HDMI spec. allows for both analogue and digital signals, it's just that the vast majority of customers will only ever use it for digital.

I bought a AV amp a week ago from SuperFi, declined their offer of cables as at the time I wasn't sure what I needed & knew that they would be overpriced. When I had final worked out what I needed & as I needed to get the thing running ASAP in time for our News Eve party I had to source all the cables locally. I was amazed at the prices the likes of Currys & Empire Direct where charging, absolute day light robbery.

In the end bought a HDMI & component cable from ASDA, and the rest from RF Potts in Derby. I can't recommend these guys enough, small electronic shop, helpful, friendly service at a reasonable price. Example paid £7.99 for 5m optical cable, 5m optical cable in currys £19.99
  • We are in the Telecoms business and have various trade catalogues, not uncommon to get things like this for £2-3 for good ones, USB cables we get for about £1. I nearly had a fit when I went into Currys and saw them for £14. I NEVER pay retail if I can help it!
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
