Birthday Cake Help

Hi

Its almost my babys first birthday, i wanted to get him a cake maybe a Teddy, one or something like that. But when i went to the cake shop they wanted £20 - £30. Does anyone know of any good sides where i can get instructions on how to make one my self.

:wave: Hi,I don't know of any sites that would help,but you can sometimes hire novelty cake tins at cake decorater supplies shops.My local one hires out number shaped tins,and I'm sure I've seen teddy shaped ones around.

When my ds2 was 1 ,I made him a teddy's face cake.It was a round choc cake.The ears were made of a smaller cake cut in half IYSWIM.I covered the lot in choc buttercream and decorated with white and ordinary choc buttons to make a face.It looked pretty good,I don't think he remembers though :rolleyes:

Check out the cake decorating books in the library - most usually have a selection. I've normally found that they've had ones specifically for simple children's cakes.

If you can't hire one locally, look on ebay for a cake tin (if you don't want it anymore after that use, you could always resell it. I've bought some great tins on there!

If you decide not to make one, then I would say have you tried Asda ? I got my little girl a lovely winnie the pooh one for her first birthday and they have lots of other ones and whilst it isn't as cheap as making your own its more reasonable that the cake shop at about £8.

poundshops had silicone teddy-shaped tins when I was in last year - don't go there much (none locally) - but it might be worth a try if you have any near you?
