Cigarette bargains?

Yes, I KNOW I should be giving up, but would be grateful for any thoughts/experiences you fellow-smokers could offer. I was in the habit of making the occasional day-trip to France to buy inexpensive cigarettes, but the strength of the Euro makes me think this probably isn't very cost-effective now. On a recent visit to France/Spain, went to La Jonquera where 200 Marlboro Light were available for EUR30 - good bargain!

Given that La Jonquera isn't very close to an airport (would require an overnight stay + car hire), does anyone have ideas about where might be feasible for a day trip purely for buying cigarettes? Or any other bright ideas - apart from giving up!?

Thanks!

A day trip to the channel islands prehaps? Your duty free allowance is only 200 cigarettes though.
  • Cigarette prices in Spain are regulated, so they cost the same no matter where you go.

Don't know whereabouts you live, but if you're close to an airport served by Ryanair you could do a day trip to Spain with them (currently offering £10 each way on selected routes and days).

Just take hand luggage, check in online and find a destination with a morning flight there and an evening one back.

When I was in Alicante in October, packs of 200 L&B cost me €29.50 each

Normally more expensive in the airport duty-free though (same price on the streets and at airports in Greece).

Is there still a 'street price' ciggy shop on the Alicante concourse (just before you're scanned in to the check-in desks)?

Not true, they are only fixed price at official Tabacs, anywhere else costs more, including the so called Duty Free.

No, it has been moved to the car park section near the bus stops.
  • Thanks, guys - looks as though a swift trip to Alicante might be on the cards!
