Sky Plus turning off at night?

Hi
I have a sky plus box but when in standby it uses 14 watts I think.
Is it ok to keep turning it off at night?
I know I will lose my timer etc, but will it do damage to the box if I keep turning it off?
Thanks

If you turn your box off every night all your recordings etc will be safe but you will not get any updates to your software which are sent over the air in the wee small hours0

No problem at all. I left it off for a whole month and lost ch 4&5 and a couple others. So leave it on for a night once a month to get the updates.:footie:

if you've got multiroom you'd need to leave it on or Sky can't connect to the boxes to make sure they're all there and you've not given one to a friend for cheap Sky.0

Good point because otherwise you would be charged the second sub in fullscheming_gypsy wrote: »if you've got multiroom you'd need to leave it on or Sky can't connect to the boxes to make sure they're all there and you've not given one to a friend for cheap Sky.0 -
Hi,
I just wanted to add that I have Sky+ multiroom and I turn one of my boxes off at night (would turn off the other but it's too awkward). I haven't had any problems or extra charges on my bill in the the month or so I've been doing this.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

We don't have multiroom and turn the Sky+ box off at night unless it's recording or set to record. It's usually on two or three nights a month and we've not had any problems.0

my daughter went away for two weeks and my husband went to check on the house, he is energy concious and turned the sky box off, when i found out what he had done i made him go back to turn it on. it was only turned off for two days and it did not record what was in the planner, does anyone know why this was? (it was not turned off at the mains)0

Ours is 'turned off' every night by switching off at the mains. If there's something set to record, we turn it off with the remote, unless it's recording when we just leave it on. If 'turned off', but on at the mains, it's on standby so should record from the planner.0
