Returning worn shoes

I bought some suedelike shoes from New Look and they fitted perfectly when I tried them on in store. I wore them out and after about 5 minutes they had stretched so much that my feet were falling out and they were unwearable. I know that anything you have to buy has to be fit for purpose so surely I am within my rights to return them? I just want to make sure as I don't want to go into New Look this afternoon and make a fool of myself demanding my money back if I'm wrong! Thanks

Take them back to the retailer, they are "not fit for purpose" or "of merchantable quality" under Sale of Goods Act, (SoGA)
See WHICH.

Q4. I know I can demand my money back within a "reasonable time" but how long is that?
The law does not specify a precise time as it will vary for most sales contracts as all the factors need to be taken into account to be fair to all sides. The pair of everyday shoes may only have a few days before the period expires but a pair of skis, purchased in a Summer Sale, may be allowed a longer period by a court.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
I do think you have a right to a full refund, but from a retailers point of view, whatever you do (not saying that you will) but don't get angry at staff who may try to refuse you. Ask politely to speak to the manager and explain things very calmly. If you get no joy, call up their customer services and let them know your rights (which they should know anyway). Not all general SA's know the rights of a customer, its generally not explained or explained so badly that the staff just don't pick it up and so don't know you are entitled to a refund.
