Lol! From the 'Basket' page, after you tick 'Gift box':

    In gift box?
For £2.95 we can put some or all of your order in a gift box.
If we have to use several we'll only charge you for one. :rotfl:

Was that for the same bike? I would like to see before buying one, hence the question.
  • No - Halfords make is "Apollo" whereas the Boots one is "Universal".
My daughter already has the smaller Universal one and they are very alike - certainly not worth £70 of a difference !!

She's has the old universal one for 3 years now and it gets tossed about all over the place but is still in good condition. She only needs a new one as shes outgrown this.

Anyone know the quality of these ...?
  • I used to work for a major retailer (not boots) and at that point (around 6 months ago) there were 2 main manafacturers of cheapo bikes. They sell the same bike badged as whatever brand people want to a number of places including stirling, boots, woolies the supermarkets etc.

Quality is what you'd expect for a £50 bike... I've not seen this specific one so won't comment on this exact model BUT I've seen a couple from stirling, 1 from bid up TV, and a number at my local woolies and they're all a similar bad standard. Cheap components, VERY heavy frames.

They are cheap but IMO not good value...

Thanks for the reply - it's what I suspected. Cheap bikes tend to be very heavy steel frames. Pay your money, take you choice.
  • Actually, these bikes aren't always that bad. I've seen quite good components on some of them - shimano, etc. Not state of the art, but for £60....My last £500.00 bike snapped in half on the frame - so I reverted to the two year older £90 in the shed that was still working........
The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.
