Online Pound Shop

I pop in to the £1 as it is not far from me. Sometimes I go in there for the odd thing and end up coming away with £10 of items, and this is purely because I am in there and think that I am getting a bargain (only in poundland though) as they have the better deals I find compared to independent stores. I may shop online for £1 items(max £2 delivery) if I lived in an area like a village, but not with my local one so close to me.0

Thanks Applepie, that's a great link. As you say, lots of people on here seem to be ordering from that site. And their £5.25 delivery charge seems to fly in the face of the comments in this thread!
they are also operating quite a different business:
what they sell is a regular purchase, essentials etc
most of their items are in standard packaging, tins, jars, boxes etc
they sell stuff which people will buy in multiples
people like play.com have free delivery, but:
most of their items are for £3+, even the cheapest items are £1.99+, & are the sort of things people will buy more than 1 of, eg cd's
their products are easily posted in standard packaging to fit through a letterbox, which probably makes their postage cheaper
are you really thinking that a site that sells items for £1 each, will actually sell anything if the minimum purchase is then £15?
dont forget the payment processing charges, which they may not have in a shop if all payments are by cash.
try running it on ebay for a few months as a test.0 -
I would use an online pound shop, if it sold some decent items, and the postage was fairly low.
I have also ordered from approved food before and was very pleased with the goodies.

I like to save money on my purchases like anyone else. I would very rarely get £5 to £15 of things from a pound shop. I like a browse through them but often walk out without purchasing anything.
If I was developing a business plan for this type of venture, I'd look at adding a pound section to your clients existing online business. The website, domain etc is already paid for. I would think people would be more likely to take a look at the pound items there and decide to add a few to their order with the main part of the site.Take the first step.
Even if you cannot see the whole staircase,
Just take the first step.

Quite a few people from this site have been ordering from http://www.approvedfood.co.uk/index.asp where there's a £5.25 delivery charge for 28kg. Most things are under £1 and they seem to be getting a lot of repeat orders. Sorry I can't recall the exact name of the thread but it's in the shopping sections. I'm just waiting for my first order to arrive.
What a great site, thanks for the link. :beer:0
