I wanna buy a couple of Panettone cakes. Last year I saw them discounted after Christmas, but this year I can't see them anywhere!
I'm in SW London - any cheap ones spotted please?

I think quite a lot of shops choose to under stock this year (probably due to the credit crunch) instead of sale their goods off cheap after Christmas, there was a few things I was hoping to purchase discounted but the stores ran out before Christmas.0

That's a shame. I want to make bread and butter pudding with panettone (from Clarissa Dickson Wright's cookbook). Will have to be more on the ball next Christmas.0

Pretty sure I saw them in my local LIDL. If you have one check there.0

they are 75% off in sainsburys at the moonwards and upwards0

I looked at Putney Sainsburys but they didn't have any. Will try Wandsworth if I get the chance this weekend as it's much bigger. I do hope there are some left somewhere. It sounds so tasty in the book.0 -

Hi
The two we bought in Lidl in December were
Favorina Pandoro and Favorina Cioccolato (use by 30/4/09).
Of course there are other types but I'm unsure there full range.Candied fruit and sultanas come to mind.
I know your area very well.
How about Lidl Morden behind the little high street?

You may want to phone them in advance to reserve you one just incase they are running low.
We have had one or more of these each year as being Italian was a festive treat after the Christmas lunch.0 -
if no joy getting one locally - i've just been on the lakeland site and they have panetonne in the sale....but not cheap! la veneziana panettone - £8.99 and desert wine panettone £8.99.0

I saw Carluccios (Bluewater branch) last week had knocked theirs down from £15 to £10 - not cheap, but probably more authentic than Lidl (incidentally, I am very pro-Lidl and their paanettone is lovely, but my dad used to get better ones down Maidstone market...)0

I bought two very small ones from Waitrose Putney yesterday. They were 1/2 price, 79p each and should do for a weeny little attempt for just me and OH.
Thanks for Lidl info and Carluccios. I think there's a Carluccios by the waterfront which I could give a go.0
