Incorrect till receipt - duplicate entry

Hi there
I've finally got around to checking all my Christmas shopping receipts and found I have been charged twice for the same item. Now the item is a book, from a well known bookstore, and I bought two different books but have been charged twice for one of them.
The book in question did not have a price on it in pounds so I did not reliase this when I paid by card as the total seemed reasonable to me. It was the on 30 November, the shops were packed, everyone was rushing and the girl at the till was chatting away to me, have I left this too late?
Do I have any rights and can I claim the amount back or will it be a case of my word against theirs?? Do I need to go back to the same branch to do this too - it's out of the way..
Confused and angry (with myself...)

You need to ring them up and ask to speak to a manager (politely, explain to whoever answers you've been overcharged and would like to speak to someone about it, they should just pass you over..) and try and give them as much info (as in, transaction date, transaction number (from the till receipt)) and what it was that was charged twice. This info will allow them to look into it, but because of the time delay there's probably not much they can do.
What I would do in this situation is look back at CCTV and see what was on the cash desk whilst you were purchasing, but its unlikely they have CCTV saved going back almost 3 months.
Its well worth a try though and I hope you have some success!0 -
they can check with the number of books sold against stock as well, esp if its not a common book0

I think I would appeal to the manager here- you said the price you paid seemed reasonable- so the amount you were overcharged would be minimal? if so the manager may just refund you the difference to keep the pease/maintain good customer service incase you write to head office to complain. It would also seem odd you bought two of the same book so you have this in your favor. Either way, you never know until you ask!0

Was charged twice on a sports bag I purchased from Sports-world, didn't know until I checked my reciept 3 days later, went back to the store and they checked the cctv at the tills and got a full refund. Don't know how long each store keeps cctv footage but as most of the posters have said best give them a call.I hate migraines.0

Hey all
Thanks for all your advice. Phoned them up and they checked their stock, luckily one didn't get nicked :O), and I got my refund without having to go there!
Waterstones have restored my faith in shops!!
