I'm having a week's holiday in Edinburgh (by myself) and wondered how I would get to the Big W on Monday(for obvious reasons!!). I saw there's a train station that looks pretty close by, would that be the best way? Also, as I'm travelling alone, is Edinburgh a fairly safe place to be? I'm not plannning on wandering about by myself at night mind!! Thanks in advance!

  • Brunstane station is close to the Big W.

This National Rail website link is useful as it shows you the station on a map and all you need to know about the station.

Lothian Buses number 45 also goes past there.
  • hi

i'd check that they are still open before you travel. I was in there on Sunday and the staff as the burger king counter told me they were closing on wednesday (31st Dec). Might save you a wasted journey!!!

Any bus which says 'Asda the Jewel' takes you pretty close to the Big W.

I reckon you'll be pretty safe walking about on your own, I often walk about the city at various times of the day and night and have never had a problem yet. Common sense is advised when carrying purses/bags obviously.

An area very close to the Big W has a huge shopping village (The Fort) and a large Asda so it's generally pretty safe during the day as it's full of shoppers.

edinburgh is great for days out,its always full of tourists so it is pretty safe, plenty of police around aswell the last time i was there due to the princess street christmas thingy.
try and take a tour under the city at night, you can book it on the royal mile from most operators, its fascinating going under the city.
