Ideally a high spec for photo and video editing.
17" widescreen fast with 100GB HD and at least 1Gb RAM.
I would be interested in hearing about specific machines makes/models to look at or where to visit to buy (on or offline).
Also, if I find what I want in lets say PC World, what is the best way to find the same machine cheaper elsewhere.
Thanks in advance.

It only has a 15.4" widescreen, but according to PC Plus the Gateway MX6635b will retail for only £699. There are a couple of more powerful systems on their site - the 8550GB and MX8554b - but I've no idea how much more they might cost.0

I highly recommend the laptop that I recently bought for myself.
Take a look at the Acer 9502WSMI or just look at the 9500 series. Meets your spec and starts at £919 incl VAT
Best website to buy from www.laptopsdirect.co.uk

HP sells shop returns direct on eBay. A laptop with 17", 3.4GHz HT, 1GB, 100GB etc. recently went for £950 but would cost £1499 in Comet! I've just bought a lower spec (3GHz, 80GB) for £771!
My current laptop came from there 18 months ago. It's in use 14 hours a day and is still going strong!
Acers are good too - a 3-year warranty is under £60 from eBuyer.Can I help?0
