meet up Edinburgh 9th Jan 2009??

Arriving in Edinburgh at silly o'clock on morning of Friday 9th, staying on Holyrood Road...anyone free for coffee or lunch that day...can meet somewhere in central city...never been there before so need somewhere pretty obvious.

Hope that some of you can make it

  • meanmarie, I'd be happy to meet you for coffee or lunch. Can't think of the names of any obvious places nearby but early next week I'll go a drive along there and find someplace obvious - unless someone else comes along and suggests a meeting place. Traffic is in chaos here at the moment (made worse by the Hogmonay celebration) but it should return to its normal awfulness (due to tram work) tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion and look forward to meeting you. Hope you have a great 2009.

I can't make it Friday either but I can suggest The Elephant House on George iv Bridge for coffee and cake - you know that is where JK Rowling did some of her creating of Harry Potter. Google maps say 15 min walk from Holyrood Road.

george 4th bridge might be too far for me --royal mile is very near holyrood rd so if nobody else can meet you on the friday, I will !

  • Wondered if Friday was still on. Had a quick drive in the area today - meanmarie, are you staying in the Macdonald Holyrood? If so then just next door there is a place called The Tun Bar & Kitchen or a couple of doors along a Pizza Express (any vouchers about?). Then on the Canongate itself (bottom half of High Street/Royal Mile) there is the Canongate Cafe (274 Canongate - near St. Marys Street) or a Turkish/Med place, think its called Le Trava, at no. 251. Both seem to have coffee at about £1.95 but the Canongate Cafe is cheaper for lunchtime stuff. When I eat out in that part of town, I go to B'Est (16 Drummond Street) which is a wee bit further away. You used to get 3 courses for £6.95 plus a small glass of wine if you booked in advance - however, I think they have recently put their prices up slightly. Of course, the most money-saving route would be for me to pick you up and bring you to my house for a lovely HM latte and scone at no cost. I am free for coffee or lunch as Friday is housework day and I am always keen to postpone that duty. It looks like there are only a couple of us able to meet up, so let us know if you think it will be worthwhile.

Hope the weather picks up a bit for the wedding - it is quite cold today and we have had a couple of flurries of snow but none of it is lying.
