Britannia giving me the runaround- is this normal?

Im in the middle of taking out a mortgage with Britannia BS. Ive had an offer accepted on the new house, with a move in date 23rd Jan. Ive sent the signed application to Britannia with the documents they asked for (a savings account statement showing the deposit which is 50k)
They called me yesterday to say that they rec'd the savings statement and asked where the deposit had come from, I said it was a combination of 2 matured bonds , the sum of a couple of smaller savings accounts put together and a gift from my mum. They then said I had to send in a letter detailing how much money came from where, ive to get my mum to send in a letter saying the money was a gift and non-returnable and ive to get my ex-partner to send in a letter because the deposit is in a joint savings account and this new house is in my name!
They then asked what was happening with my current property and I told them its on the market. They then said they would have to look into my case when all the letters and docs were returned and would refer it to the underwriters.
Has anyone else experienced this soft of thing and what will happen when it goes to the underwriters?
Thanks in advance.
