    Hi Lucy:D

Lol! How funny we both posted that at the same time! You wanting to stop buying clothes and me wanting a new wardrobe! :p

The way i found myself to stop buying was to not go to the shops! And if i do go to the shops i spend ages picking up something i like then thinking do i really need this? Then putting it back down again! Or to save up vouchers from survey sites to buy the things i wanted like make up etc.

Oooooo go on tell us what things you have splashed out on!:)

hi Lucy - welcome to the thread, and as the one who was debtfree and then borrowed money for a car I'm not gonna judge lol
  • Lol, I actually managed to do that the other day! I travel a lot, bout once every 2-3 weeks, so I always go to the duty free and buy make up, perfume, bags etc. 2 years ago my make up bag was all Rimmell, Maybelline, and maybe Max Factor if I pushed the boat out. Now it's Dior, Estee Lauder and Givenchy, and I hate it that when I find my foundation was too dark, so threw it out... it cost £30.

Anyway, what i managed to do the other day was put stuff back! I picked up a lip balm, Benefit £12; perfume, can't remember what, £30; lipstick, Elizabeth Arden £12; Mascara, Givenchy £14. I kid myself it's ok cause it's that little bit cheaper than it would be in the dept store. But I managed to tell myself I didn't need it all... and put it all back. I then bought a £2 lip balm because I had dry lips, and a book £6, to keep my mind off the treasures in duty free. That's the first time I've not spent on cosmetics!

I don't shop often.. but when I do, I just spend too much. I don't have problem debts, so i think it's ok... and I spend too much on food too, I don't even need it... I fancy a mcdonalds sometimes, so I go...

EDIT: or a burger king, or nandos, or pizza hut, or a kebab, or fish n chips, or a bacon toastie... To be fair on myself, I have reduced what I spend on food. I was averaging £70 a month 18 months ago, whereas now it's £30 (I meticulously keep a spending diary, no penny is unaccounted for)

EDIT 2: I feel like I'm really unburdening myself but revealing my guilty extravagences... I'd be so ashamed if anyone who knew me in life knew what I spend on "treating" myself.

Ahhh, i would just try to avoid going in the shops if possible.

Are these brands of make up any better than the cheap ones?
If so when you do need to buy new make up and you really dont want to buy cheap you could always buy them off ebay or half the price normally.

And the foundation you threw out still would have sold well on ebay, but i dont suppose thats much help now you've thrown it:)

But well done on not getting yourself into debt though, thats the main thing. Your spending your money not borrowed which is always good!:)

    Hi Lucy and welcome.

If any of you girlies who do matched betting are signed up to betfair, check your emails for a betfair games site offer, for a free £10 when you bet through £10.

I just did 20 games of DOND at 50p each and came out with 72p profit (woohoo) and then I'll get a free £10 to do it all again with and hopefully be up again to withdraw.
  • They're not necessarily better... just prettier packaging. I don't *need* anymore make up in the next 10 years, I have so much. They are nice quality... but I can't say they're any better than Max Factor or Revlon, for their higher price... but I just like the thrill of playing with testers, chatting to the sales assistants (I travel alone, it's nice to go have a chin wag with the girls that work there), and making an extravagant purchase. Ebay would kill it for me, even if it was cheaper.

When I say thrown out, I mean gave it away, to my sister. I still lost £30 - she can't afford to buy it off me, and I wouldn't ask for money from her anyway.

I need to learn to avoid shops, altogether. Even buying petrol today, I decided to throw in an ice cream. £1.50, but the little bits add up :(

    I want to be a millionaire!!! :(

Hm, I gamble too much too, by kidding myself it isn't gambling... If the cashback via Quidco is greater then the initial deposit, I go for it. I do make a profit, and I generally get about 50% of my deposit back... but I feel like I shouldn't do it. There's a time delay in getting the cash... which I don't like. I did once make a great profit though. Cant' remember which site, but I put £10 on the Grand National, the site gave me a £10 free bet, so altogether I had £20 on the winning horse. Won £200, less the £10 free bet, so came out with £190 winnings plus £20 cashback. not bad :D

  • This really is my confession day.... I buy my boyfriend too many presents. Not presents for anything in particular... we didn't do Valentines, we barely mark birthdays... but I just buy him a CD when I feel like it. I've just ordered him Guitar Hero for the PC, because I know he likes it. I bought him cute cuff links a few weeks back, and will buy a shirt to match soon.
