Getting married! Any advice?

Make sure you do what you want - don't get press-ganged into doing or having things (or people!) that you don't want. It's your day after all.
I made my own invitations and order of service, which cut down the cost a fair bit. I only had 30 people at mine, but that was through choice and it was a great day.
We hired a Historic Scotland property and had it to ourselves in the evening which was fantastic!0 -
Another tip is to start going to wedding fairs - they very often run competitions to win dresses, photographers or whatever, plus you get to wander round, pick up ideas, nibble some cake and glug some champagne:D0

When my wife and I got married 3 years ago, she did all of the wedding shows and got some great ideas. Our budget was similar to yours (tiny bit bigger) and after a lot of effort and searching we managed to get the dream wedding.
My wife made all of our save the date, invites, menus, place cards, order of service cards and my wife borrowed some of her wedding jewellery from family to keep costs down (although she received a diamond necklace and a self penned poem on the morning of the wedding
)
Oh, the biggest saving was by far in hiring the country house on a Sunday. YES A SUNDAY. Funny day to get married some would think but by god was it cheaper (quarter of the price of a Friday or Saturday)
Food and drink was the biggest cost but we allowed a certain amount of booze for guests to keep costs in check, but after that they had to pay at the bar (they are there after all not to get !!!!ed on your money)
Don't be afraid to ask friends and family for help on the day and remember that it is your day (however much you want to share it)! We worked hard up until the day but didn't lift a finger on the actual day.
Good Luck!0 -
We had a Christmas wedding which worked out cheaper. The venue and church were already decorated for Christmas. We had a Christmas dinner meal which as we had the reception at a big hotel they did cheaper as they had christmas dos on having the same menu. We had bacon butties at night instead of a buffet. Cheaper and went down VERY well. We bought red bridesmaids dresses and fur wraps in the sales after the Christmas before. Same with crackers for the tables.We had young photographers who were just starting out and therefore cheaper, they are now 2 years later charging over £5000!! That was just under our budget for the whole thing!0
