Money Shop have lost my cheque - the plot thickens!?

I had a phone call this morning from Money Shop (whose cheques I am intending to pay off in full this month) I had cheque for £100 due to be banked this morning. They have called me and said that the cheque is due to be banked but they can't find it and assume that it has been shredded in error...
"Assumed" is not good enough for me quite frankly, so I said I'm not doing anything for a week to give them a chance to look for it. If it hasn't turned up by next week I'm going to cancel the cheque. They've asked me to give them another cheque to cover it - where do I stand on this? Do they have the right to demand a new cheque if they've lost it?
And what will it cost me to cancel the one they've lost??
As if there weren't enough reasons not to deal with these people already!!!

Just had a look on the Natwest website - it'll cost me £10 to cancel the cheque.
I was going to let that cheque be banked anyway - should I just cancel it with the bank and pay them £90 to clear it? I'm not paying a tenner for their mistake!!0 -
Ask them to confirm their error in writing and confirm the need for a replacement cheque in writing. Also ask them to confirm (guess what? in writing!) how they will reimburse you for their mistake. If you have it all written down there can be no 'misunderstandings'. You have a credit agreement with them, let them offer you the same courtesy!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Great advice, thank you very much! I will do that exactly. Cheeky monkeys!!
Will let you know how I get on with that...thank goodness I will never be dealing with them again after this month!0 -
OKAY - phoned the money shop today to see if there was any news on them finding my cheque...
So far two cheques have gone out of my account, but not the one they said was missing...I phoned and asked if the missing cheque had been found, and she said it was showing as being banked and cleared...?
The last one showing on my account has gone out today, but hasn't cleared with Money Shop yet (it normally takes a day or so to register with them) but is showing as banked...
My account balance is showing as 400, which includes the one waiting to be cleared, which would mean that the "missing" cheque has been banked and cleared?
I have no idea what's going on...but it appears that someone may have lost my cheque and then entered on the computer that it was banked and cleared...if that cheque had been cleared, surely it would have shown on my bank statement by now??
I am very confused!!!
just to summarise (as I don't think I've made much sense so far!)
Cheque 1 - banked and cleared (showing on bank account)
Cheque 2 - banked and cleared (not showing on bank - this was missing 1)
Cheque 3 - banked, not yet cleared (showing on my bank account)
Cheques 4-6 to be banked later in month
Outstanding balance £400
QUE?!?!? Can anyone make sense of this?0 -
The "missing" cheque has now been cashed!!
Nice to see how competent this lot are...the sooner they're paid off the better!!!0
