My Day In Court....

....I posted this yesterday but it seems to have gotten lost in my diary thread......I thought it may be of help to more people if it had a thread of it's own....

Hi gang....JUDGEment Day

Arrived at court at 1pm for my 1.15pm appointment. Went and sat by window number 4 and at 1.15 rang the bell, as it said on a little sticker on the window, and the clarke came to see me.
The very nice lady took my forms and quickly looked through them. Indicated where I needed to sign. I signed. She took the £495 and told me to come back at 2pm, as the judge may want to see me. Might not but I need to be back at the same window at 2pm. All this took 10 minutes.
I went for a coffee in the art gallery next door. Walked round the block while having a fag (never mind I'll stop again new year lol)

Back to the court window again at 1.55pm. the nice lady clarke came out at 2pm on the dot and lead me to another room where I was asked to wait while the clarke went to see if the judge wanted to see me. I was thinking this might be a longer wait but, no 2 minutes later she was back to say the judge will see me now. Gulp!! How many lashes, I wondered lol!!
On the walk down the corridor the clarke whispered to me "he's a nice judge" which to be honest was the perfect thing to hear.
The judge wished me a good afternoon and told me where to sit. He was half way through speed reading my SOA. When he got to my written explanation bit he asked a few simple questions - yes sir/no sir answers - easy enough. Said that he could see I had sought professional advice. Asked if I fully understood the consequences of bankruptcy - yes sir. He told me he was going to make an order, wrote something on the file, closed it and handed it to the clarke, who sat quaintly at the back of the room. He turned to me and said "as of 4.15 on this day you are now bankrupt" and said something about the OR which I didn't catch (was too busy running round the room with my shirt over my head - in my mind of course lol) - thank you sir.
The clarke lead me out of the room and on another walk down a few corridors whist explaining she would now ring the OR office and they may want to speak to me hear and now - oh right, I wasn't expecting that!!

Nothing to worry about. She sat me down in a private bit of a large office - just a table, two chairs and a phone, she dialled the number, told them my name, address, bankruptcy number and handed over the phone. The man was very polite and checked spellings of name and address, gave me the phone number of the OR in Leeds and took my numbers. He then asked me if there was anything that needed their imediate attention ie: anything going through the courts regarding houses ect. that needed to be stopped - no. He asked if I had any assets - no. Asked for the details of my car - reg, if fully insured and value. Then told me I would be contacted by their office, to make an appointment for a telephone interview, by phone. He told me I would recieve a pack in the post that contained forms I needed to sign and return. Asked me if I had any questions for him - I asked something about my works pension and about maintenance payments for my daughter and that was it. The clarke handed me a sheet of paper that had my bankruptcy number on and said if anyone contacts me for any payments of any kind, tell them you are bankrupt and quote the BR number and give them the OR's tell no.
I walked out of the court at 2.35pm...a free man - well thats what it felt like lol

So there you have it. Thats how it goes down at Leeds Crown Court. Easy!!

Happy New Year.....Slay

Congratulations Slay, glad it went so well for you! Just reading the bit about you seeing the judge set my nerves on edge a little tho. I think if i see him and he says to me "you are now BR as of .... at .... time" I might get a bit upset, so hope I don't see him.

Thank you for posting up your experience, it does really help to read them. :D
