Faulty kettle still under guarantee

Not sure where to post this, so thought here was as good a place as any.

A Russell Hobbs kettle we bought from Tesco at the end of Feb 08 has started playing up - it keeps cutting out before reaching the boil.

Who should I approach first, Tesco who we bought it from or Russell Hobbs? Amazingly I still have the receipt from Tesco.

If it was me I would go to Tesco as you have the receipt .The way I understand it the warrenty that comes with the item for the first year is with the retailer.

I have done this with Argos when I had a kettle that developed a fault .I chose a different kettle and paid the difference no problem.

Try it while the date on your receipt is still valid.....
    Hope this helps

I was at Tescos electrical Dept just a couple of days ago and noticed the sign at the counter which said that Tesco guaranteed all their electrical goods for 1 year and if a fault develops in that time to take it back for replacement or repair - seems like a good idea as I assume thats Tesco policy accross the board. Well done for keeping the receipt.

Your contract is legally between Tesco's not the manufacturer.

However I had a Breville kettle that stopped working after about 9 months. The retailer only gave a 28 day guarantee* but the manufacturer gave a year. So I sent it back to the manufacturer and received a kettle that had a RRP of £35 more.

*Legally this is extended to another 5 months
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
