Help with a haggle

Hey all,
We really need a new fridge freezer and have our hearts set on an American style with the ol' water and ice dispenser.
Comet have a nice Samsung one, reduced to £699, which we were really hoping to get down to around the £550-£600 mark. We went in the other day, being first time hagglers, and tried the trick of saying we wanted the extended warranty (fully planning to cancel it later), which brought the price down by £50 and half price delivery. Unfortunately, still over our price range. Further attempts to bring it down fell on deaf ears so we left empty handed.
We still really want the fridge though, so what do we do next? There are two other Comet stores 25 miles away, so do we try our luck there or go back to the local one and say something along the lines of "we've been over our finances and the absolute most we can afford, with the warranty, is £xyz"?
Any advice much appreciated!
Thanks,
Max

You need to play two stores off of each other, ideally they should be close to each other so that you can go back and forth and tell one that you were offered it for £XX amount, so can they beat that...then go back with their counter offer...etc etc....can take a while but I saved £150 on a TV doing that a couple of years back.We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

Hmm, we tried in the Comet that was practically next door and the assistant manager was insistant that they were no longer allowed to haggle. The most she would do was half price delivery.Ms_Chocaholic wrote: »Have you looked at Comet online to check their prices

she would say that because she doesn't want to lose money, it's up to you to have the bottle to push the issue. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
