I'm greedy.
This year I have replaced the heating at a cost of over £1,200. I bought my tenant a dehumidifier as I knew she dries clothes indoors (£100). I took sweets for her boys and gave a cash Christmas present.
She pointed out a problem where there is mould one of the bedroom ceilings. I suggested that the loft insulation might be missing in places. Within 24 hours I had refitted the loft insulation as well as I could, arranged an electrician to fit a fan in the bathroom. I noticed torn roofing felt in the loft so have arranged for the tiles to be removed, the felt replaced and the loft insulation to be brought up to modern standards while the tiles are off.
Not a lot of profit to be taxed in 2008/09.
If ALL LLs are the same, that's a good thing then.

Sorry, it is a hangover from my days developing Neural Networks and machine learning simulations - in the old days when I.T. was interesting.
Back then it was all Axioms, Soma, Dendrites and Neurons.
Neural Networks hmm sounds familiar. Studid that for my degree a bit.... back propagation pops into my head for some reason lol :P.
Suffice to say was a bit of a dull subjct for my robotics degree :P. Artificial intelligence makes you think... human like intelligence... pah robots arent even near self awareness.

Kenny, don't sit on the fence. What do you really think?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
3. professional BTLers with large portfolio (often inherited) - these guys have tons of Rackman style places, and rack in loads of DSS loot, while doing !!!!!! all to maintain the property. I have one of these BAR STEWARDS next to one of mine and I'd love to get the BAR STEWARD in a back alley and educate him about his maintenance procedures. Although the council might get there first.
A lot of these professional BTLers are fine. There are quite a few in central London (such as our LL) and they are ok to deal with....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

BTL-ers do seem to be rather... phallic......much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Incidentally I took my shares all out last april 2007. At the peak, just for completeness.
Was it?
OH sold up August and Sept. 2007. I thought the peak was after that, but I could be wrong....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

FTSE 100 was around peak April to Mid June 07 then dipped a bit around July/August, then peaked again (at the same level as mid June) around October 07 so you're both right0 -
BTL is just like any other business. You invest hoping to make a profit, if you succeed you make money, if you fail then you make no money or at worst go bust.
It is a service in much the same way that Pfizer or a debt collection agency or Sainsbury's provide a service: they provide something their customers need and hope to make a profit.
We need to have bankruptcy in a capitalist economy as there needs to be a formalised way to write off debts that are not repayable - the costs of negotiating and regulating each unrecoverable debt separately would be too high otherwise. That the penalties for going bankrupt should be more or less severe (eg debtors prison, public execution etc) is a different matter of course. My feeling is that the IVA system is too lenient on the debtor but I don't know enough about it to be sure.0
