  • Did you pass or fail?

The rubbish thing about IFS is that they don't tell you the question's you got wrong!

The exam is hard. No specific tips except take it until you pass.

What questions weren't you happy with? I had one question in my module 4 where the correct answer didn't appear as one of the options, but other than that there were plenty of others to focus on.

I am taking Cefa 3 next week and hope to then go on and take Cefa 4 a few weeks later. Does cefa 4 mainly focus on Cefa 2 and 3 or does it go back to cefa 1 in detail? I am interested because I passed Cefa 1 over 2 years ago as part of CeMAP and I have only recently decided to complete full Cefa. I passed Cefa 2 earlier this month and so I have up to date knowledge in this area but I could be quite rusty in some parts of cefa 1.

A lot of people seem to be commenting on the CEFA versions recently if posts here are to go by. You rarely see the CII versions mentioned despite them being the versions that are taken by most people. What made you choose the CEFA version?

I used the IFS when I did my mortgage exams just over 2 years ago. I found the CeMAP materials well structured and I found it was easy to book exams when I was ready without having wait more than a few days. As CeMAP 1 and Cefa 1 are the same I looked into both the IFS and CII options. I looked at Cefa 2 and CF2 materials and I felt the Cefa materials are on the whole better presented and therefore easier to follow. Once I felt I was ready for the Cefa 2 exam I then looked back at the CF2 materials and found the content was very similar.
Once I have my Cefa certificate I may then study for the diploma exams with the Cii as they use a modular option. I will look into this more later on in the year. At this stage I am focussing on passing Cefa 3 and 4.

At this stage of my exams I'd suggest that people try the CII route from the start. Reason for this is fairly simple: if you go down the IFS route and then decide to get the Diploma, the CII will apparently charge you £240 just to recognise your CeFA as contributing towards the Diploma...

Not the most informative of posts - what weren't you happy with?
  • As someone said earlier, the answer to one of the questions was not given as an option.I failed by one mark and not to happy about it.

I believe it's your right to request a breakdown of the questions and the answers. Naturally there's a fee associated with it, but if you're convinced that there was no right answer present, you could presumably claim the fee back after the result simply because it was their fault.

What about the DipFA? This is what i was informed was one of 2 Diplomas (other is with CII) which all financial advisers must have by 2010 to be able to practice? And it is an IFS qualification which is £500 to register with them anyway (as opposed to £135 for each CeFA.

I was also told that if you go down the CII route then you are bound by their exam schedules whereas with CeFA you do the exams as and when you're ready?

I'm only on the CeFA 1 stage so far got my first exam on Monday!
