    I'm not sure how it corresponds to temperature, but as far as I understand, you need to keep in mind that a top oven uses the grill bars as its heating and so things will get browned quicker than a normal oven, so if making a cake again I would put it as low as possible and on a low setting.

    Are you sure it has a top oven and not just a grill?
    I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    There should be a control knob for the grill and a separate one for the oven even though they are in the same unit.
    I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    Two knobs adjacent,one for grill and one for top oven on mine at least. To use grill you need to to tunn both on together,to use oven only the temp one.
