Does anyone know the cheapest place to buy one from? thanks :D Decided one will be great fitted in the kitchen to dry the washing - like they did in the old days :D

  • I bought one from Ikea, it is the Antonius and cost £11.73. The slats are quite thin, so not sure it would take lots of weight on hangers

  • They are called a " Sheila Maid". Not necessarily cheap (probably they have become a style statement), but googling gives this amongst others

  • sill have one that my dad made- must be 40 odd years old, by now- very handy (the hanger, that is!)

Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)
  • Lakeland often have these. I've seen them in the reduced section for £5, but no idea if they have any at the moment

You may get cooking smells on the washing by hanging in the kitchen. I used to have one in the hall right above a radiator which dried everything really quick in the winter and in the summer I opened the bathroom window for the fresh air as at the time I lived in a top floor flat. I really miss it :o

    Check John Lewis?
  • Another option is something I saw in the Lakeland sale catalogue for £29.95.

It looks like an outdoor rotary airer, but the pole adjusts so that it is fixed to your ceiling and floor. I imagine you can put it up and take it down as necessary.

When I was young we had an outbuilding which housed the CH boiler and washing machine and one of those big deep sinks that are so fashionable now (belfast??) with a wooden draining board. We also had two pulleys in there to dry the clothes on in winter.
