Tax Return and Late Pension Contribution

Hi All

I am self employed and just completed my 2007/8 tax return for accountancy period 01/04/2007 - 31/03/2008.

During this period I did mean to contribute to a pension plan but didn't (I know, really stupid and kicking myself now).

Does anyone know if I can contribute now for this period and deduct from my tax return.

I tried to contact Inland Revenue but I couldn't get through by phone and cant find an e-mail address to check.

Any ideas would be gratefully recieved.

Massive thanks and good luck for 2009

Mike

Basically no, you used to be able to carry back personal pension payments to the previous tax year but not any longer - relief is given in year of payment only.
  • Thanks BoGoF.

That's bad news though!! Do you think I deduct some funds for Jan 08 to Mar 08 for the Pension?

    Thanks again
