Free Wine and bag at M&S

Not sure if this is in all M&S stores but in the Worthing branch a lady approached me asking if I wanted an M&S credit card. I wasn't really interested but she said she would fill in the form which took about 3 minutes, then offered me either red or white wine, a bag for life and copy of M&S magazine. Card at the moment is 0% balance transfers for 6 months and 0% purchases for 10 months.

  • Just make sure you cancel the card as soon as you get it

The M&S card call centre 'customer service staff' were awful a while back when my card was stolen.
To avoid any potential problems I would advise you to cancel it in writing and ask for written confirmation that it has been cancelled too.

I probably won't be accepted for it anyway as my credit rating is quite bad. If I do get it, my husband will just do a balance transfer @ 0% for 6 months, then cancel it.

    Thanks for post!!!

    - if the wine is given to you you there and then, surely you don't have to cancel the card - just never use or chop up?

But you would have to close it otherwise it would stay on your credit info.

Store cards are a total rip-off. If the process took all of 3 mins it seems the store doesn't run the credit card check there and then. Fill in the form with foney details and enjoy the freebies.

  • I wouldnt personally have a credit check for a bottle of wine

You would be better applying for a card for cashback such as one of these:

You could always put in fake details like previous poster said, then you wouldn't have a problem with any credit checks.

I wouldn't say the M&S credit card is a total rip off as they are doing 0% on balance transfers for 6 months and 0% on purchases for 10 months. After that period then just cancel the card.
  • I have no doubt M&S would cancel a card when requested but i randomly got a card like that when i was a student. I never used it and requested to cancel it. They never did and sent a replacement card to my old student address. Identity theft later, police phone calls, long conversations with the credit company regarding the issue and my credit rating and two conversations with debt collection companies I thinks its finally been sorted. My advice is never to get a card you don't need even if there are freebies attached.
