Hello Elise. I know a few people who have gastric bands & what you are feeling is not unusual. What you say about not caring whether you eat or not sounds familiar!

Gastric bands and gastric bypass ops do very little in the way of re-educating people. A lot of people might end up a few sizes smaller but they still don't understand that their body NEEDS certain foods to function properly. Losing weight should be not just about looking slimmer but being healthy, feeling fitter and knowing how to prepare & cook healthy & nutritious food.

I think it's very sad that people are now getting these ops and the counselling and support is not there afterwards.

  • hi elise.
I read an articel in the Daily Mail today from ann diamond who said that it didn't work for her. You may find it online. I had a friend who went and paid for hers and from the first consluantion to the op it was ten days!! She wasn't prepaired ( I don't think ) for life with restricted food intake and why she over ate.

I'm 18 stone and struggle to lose weight but I'm too much of a chicken to have the lapband. I think what you are feeling is more common than people think as they only see the weight loss not other side effects.
I hope you get the support you needx

Here's the piece from yesterday's paper Elise.

I agree with jimjamsmommy about you needing some support with this. All bodies need certain foods, vitamins, minerals etc to work properly. There's no point being thinner but feeling unhealthy is there?

Also I agree with what she said about people not having time to fully understand how their life will be afterwards. If you're paying, it can be very quick indeed. Even the NHS is much quicker than it used to be and sadly, a lot of people are NOT getting the support they need afterwards.

    Hope you feel better soon.
